Indexing to Different Palettes

When you work on graphics for the web, you have a limited color palette with which to work. Often times, you will have to reduce a graphic from thousands or even millions of colors to a meesely 256 web safe colors (this is called indexing the image). Reducing the quality of the image is inevitable, but by knowing the differences between palettes and options like dithering and banding, you can maximize your graphic potential by controlling how the colors will be processed. When indexing graphics and converting them to GIFs, the following palettes and options are available:
